Hey dads, Ryan here.

If you are anything like me, you would rather mow the lawn, fix a trailer, or sit through another school pickup than wander a store looking for shirts that actually fit. I hated clothes shopping as a kid when my mom dragged me through Abercrombie. I still hate it now.

The problem is we get older. We become husbands and fathers. The same 15-year-old shirts that used to pass for “fine” start looking like we gave up. I wanted to look more put together for my wife, my kids, church, and work — without turning it into a project.

I kept seeing guys like Jeremy Sears wear Poncho shirts everywhere. Fishing. Dinner. Everyday life. They just looked right. So I reached out.

Disclosure

Poncho sent me three shirts at no cost. This was not a paid sponsorship. These are my first impressions and try-on notes. I have not completed a long-term wear or wash test yet.

What I ordered and why

I picked three long-sleeve western styles that made sense for fall in Colorado. Cool mornings. Warmer afternoons. Church, work, and weekends without changing clothes three times.

I am about 6'0" and 160 pounds. I went Medium Slim on all three. That fit was right for me — not a parachute, not painted on.

The three shirts:

  • The Ventura — sage western performance denim. Heavier. More structure. About $109.95.
  • The Pacifico — navy western performance shirt. Lightweight. About $94.95.
  • The San Saba — light grey western performance shirt. Same lightweight line. About $94.95.

The Ventura — sage western denim

This is the one with more substance. Soft from the first touch, with stretch built in, so it does not feel like the stiff denim shirts a lot of us remember. Pearl snaps. Western yoke. That broken-in feel without looking sloppy.

If you want a shirt that can handle a cooler morning and still look sharp at dinner, this is the one. It has more weight than the two performance shirts, and you feel it in a good way.

Pearl snaps, western pockets, and that worn-in sage denim. This is the detail that sold me on the look.

The Pacifico — navy western performance

This is the classic navy western look without the costume. Lightweight performance fabric, pearl snaps instead of buttons, and sleeves that actually stay rolled. Breathable. Easy. The kind of shirt you can throw on and stop thinking about.

Navy is the color most dads can wear tomorrow without asking anybody if it “works.” Church, school pickup, a Saturday with the boys — it disappears into the day in the best way.

The San Saba — light grey western performance

Same western performance fabric as The Pacifico. Light grey. Clean. Versatile. This is the one I keep reaching for when I want to look a little sharper without trying.

If navy is the safe everyday shirt, grey is the one that photographs well and still works with jeans, khakis, or whatever is clean on a Tuesday morning.

What actually stood out

These are not the stiff fishing shirts from 2012. Out of the package they were soft. They stretch. The pearl snaps give them western detail without looking like you rented a costume. And the Medium Slim fit on my frame was the first thing that made me think, “Okay. I would actually wear this.”

A few details that matter more to dads than the marketing copy:

  • Pearl snaps instead of fussy buttons.
  • Sleeves that stay rolled when you want them rolled.
  • Built-in stretch so you can move — yard work, kids, a truck, a horse, whatever your Saturday looks like.
  • UPF 50 sun protection in the performance shirts.
  • Hidden pocket, sunglasses holder, and a built-in lens cloth — small things that save you from looking like you forgot your life in the console.
  • Slim and Regular fits, so you are not guessing between “tent” and “too tight.”

Why this matters for dads

Looking put together is not vanity. Your kids watch how you show up. Your wife notices when you stopped trying. You notice it too, even if you pretend you do not.

Most of us do not need a new personality. We need a few shirts that work on a Tuesday, survive a Saturday, and still look decent if we get asked to dinner. That is the gap Poncho is trying to fill.

I have not lived in these shirts for six months yet. I am not going to pretend I have. But after the unboxing and the try-on, I get why dads who used to hate shopping are buying more than one.

Who this is for

This is a good fit if you:

  • Hate clothes shopping and want fewer, better shirts.
  • Want a western look that still works in real life — not a costume.
  • Refuse to look like you checked out just because you became a dad.
  • Would rather order two shirts online than spend a Saturday at the mall.

Skip it if you need a six-month wash report before you buy anything. That test is still coming.

The simple next step

Watch the try-on. Then if one of these looks like your life, grab it from ponchooutdoors.com.

Sage denim. Navy. Light grey. Those were my three. I would start with the color you would actually wear this week — not the one that looks coolest in a photo.

Question for you

Which would you wear first — sage denim, navy, or light grey? Drop it in the comments on the video. I read them.
